Iowa State tennis loses a close match against Stetson

Regina Espindola returns a serve. Espindola and her partner Erin Freeman played no. 3 doubles against Oklahoma on April 21 at Forker Tennis Courts. No. 3 doubles went on to lose to Oklahoma, 5-7.

The Iowa State Cyclones put up a great fight against the Stetson Hatters but could not finish with a win. Both teams played very hard as the match came down to the wire, but Iowa State fell to Stetson 3-4.

Singles:

No. 1: Maty Cancini was defeated by Arijana Korac (SU) 6-2, 6-4.

No. 2: Regina Espindola defeated Danel Ashirova (SU) 6-2, 4-6 and won the third set by retirement.

No. 3: Ekaterina Repina played a very close match against Vicky Geurinckx but was defeated 6-4, 6-4 (7-5).

No. 4: Erin Freeman played a close first set against Lucie Renault winning 6-4, but ended up losing the next two sets 0-6, 0-6.

No. 5: Margarita Timakova came out hot for the first set winning 6-1, but ended up being defeated by Brooke Milner (SU) who won the second and third set, 7-6 (7-2), 6-1.

No. 6: Annabella Bonadonna defeated Maxine Bateman (SU) 6-3, 6-3.

Doubles:

No. 1: Cancini/Espindola defeated Korac/Geurinckx (SU) 6-2.

No. 2: Freeman/Bonadonna were defeated by Milner/Renault (SU) 3-6.

No. 3: Repina/Timakova played a hard fought match against Bateman/Ashirova (SU) 7-6 (7-5) winning by match point.

The Cyclones will have a two-week break to regroup. The Cyclones will take on the Creighton Bluejays on Feb. 24 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
