Cyclones beat Presbyterian in third game of Kickin’ Chicken Classic

Iowa State won its second game in the Kickin’ Chicken Classic with a score of 10-2 in five innings.

Led by sophomore Sami Williams, the Cyclones got off to an early 6-0 lead on the top of the first inning.

Sophomore Hannah Carter had the opening hit, and with Sydney Stites and Carter at bases, Williams homered to left field for a three-run lead.

Nychole Antillon followed suit in the first inning and homered to left field to score Taylor Nearad.

Talyn Lewis homered to run the score up to 6-0 to close off the first inning.

Iowa State did not let up, and continued to score. Sally Woolpert scored unearned after a fielding error by third baseman Presley Bisset. In the same inning, Lewis singled up the middle, allowing Antillon and Nearad to score.

Presbyterian answered back for their only scores of the day in the bottom of the second.

Presbyterian’s right fielder Grace Wallace homered to left field, allowing fellow teammate catcher Macy Hyatt to score.

The game ended after Williams doubled down the left field line as Stites scored to finish the game 10-2.

It led to an early rest for right-handed pitcher Emma Hylen, who finished with five strikeouts, two earned runs and three hits on the day in five innings.

The Cyclones will continue their tournament at 1:30 p.m. today against Coastal Carolina.
