Iowa State’s wrestling team entered Hilton Coliseum for the final regular-season dual.

The Cyclones wrapped up their season against their in-state rival: the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Hawkeyes won their 14th consecutive Cy-Hawk dual, defeating Iowa State 35-6.

Action started with the No. 3 125-pounder according to InterMat, Spencer Lee, and Iowa State’s Sinjin Briggs. Lee quickly pinned Briggs in 44 seconds; Iowa led 6-0.

The Cyclones looked to get on track in the 133-pound match. Iowa State redshirt sophomore Markus Simmons jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first period. Iowa’s Paul Glynn battled back and emerged with an 8-7 win.

Redshirt freshman 141-pounder Ian Parker returned to the Iowa State lineup after recovering from an injury. Iowa’s Vince Turk spoiled Parker’s return, winning a 13-5 decision.

Iowa’s 149-pounder Brandon Sorensen continued the Hawkeye’s momentum, defeating redshirt freshman Jarrett Degen in a 7-4 decision.

In the final match before intermission, Iowa State failed to deliver a victory again. Redshirt sophomore Chase Straw lost to Iowa’s Michael Kemerer 11-5. Iowa State trailed 19-0 at intermission.

After intermission, the first-half trends continued. Former-Hawkeye Skyler St. John jogged to the center of the mat in cardinal and gold. St. John lost to Iowa’s Alex Marinelli via a first-period pin.

Next in line for the Cyclones was 174-pounder Danny Bush. Bush failed to put Iowa State in the win column, losing to Joey Gunther, 4-0.

Senior 184-pounder Dane Pestano was close to providing a win, but Pestano ultimately lost in a 3-2 decision.

Iowa had an open weight at 197-pounds, giving the Cyclones their first points. Iowa still led 31-6.

To finish the dual, Iowa’s Sam Stoll cruised to a win over Iowa State’s Marcus Harrington with a 14-4 major decision.
