The Super Bowl is heading up north to Minneapolis, Minnesota, to embrace the cold weather and celebrate the biggest game in the NFL.

This season, the New England Patriots will play the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII. The game will be on Sunday, Feb. 4, at 5:30 p.m. and can be watched on NBC.

Along with the actual game, Justin Timberlake will be performing at halftime inside U.S. Bank Stadium where the Minnesota Vikings play their home games.

The Iowa State Daily staff has decided to pick the winner of Super Bowl LII with a score and an explanation of why that team will win.

Emily Barske, Editor-in-Chief

Winner: Justin Timberlake (OK, actually the Patriots)

Score: 28-21

I’m a Vikings fan if that tells you anything. That said, I’m not really excited about either team. For the Patriots, the Super Bowl is a “been there done that” event, which I think will be to their benefit. If Tom Brady and the Patriots’ offense plays well and the defense doesn’t do horrendously, New England has the game.

Emily Blobaum, Managing Editor of Content

Winner: Patriots

Score: 31-24

Tom Brady. Enough said. And for what it’s worth, I’m more excited for the commercials.

Emily Clement, Digital Editor

Winner: Patriots

Score: 21-20

I know close to nothing about professional football. I do know that Tom Brady is on the Patriots and that he’s good, so apparently that means that the Patriots will win. I’m mostly just looking forward to the commercials!

Jake Dalbey, Assistant Digital Editor – Social Media

Winner: Eagles

Score: 31-27

As per usual the Eagles are getting no respect going into this game. At this point, according to most news outlets, Nick Foles was supposed to Nick ‘fold’ but the NFC Championship came and went, leaving the Eagles with a win. The Eagles have a better defense compared to the Patriots and an arguably equal rushing and receiving core. Yes, the Patriots have the G.O.A.T but the Eagles have Napoleon Dynamite and plan to beat the him like a tetherball.

Dani Gehr, News Editor – Politics and Administration

Winner: Eagles

Score: 27-23

I don’t know anything about football, but I had an Eagles jersey when I was younger and it was nice. I miss that jersey…

Jill O’Brien, News Editor – Student Life

Winner: Eagles

Score: 34-21

I don’t know anything about football, and I will probably spend the day eating party food and scrolling through Twitter for people reacting to the game in real time, but I had to pick someone. Here is that pick.

K Rambo, News Editor – Diversity

Winner: Patriots

Score: 34-13

Don Henley is way too old to be playing and Hotel California is way overrated.

Chris Jorgensen, Visuals Editor

Winner: Corporate America

Score: 999-0

I won’t be watching the Super Bowl. I haven’t watched a full NFL game since I was in middle school. Cash is king in the NFL and I don’t buy into the culture of spending money to throw a party to watch a game in which most people don’t actually care about the outcome. People will still watch just for the commercials, and the NFL and corporate America will laugh all the way to the bank.

Mikinna Kerns, Assistant Visuals Editor

Winner: Eagles

Score: 27-21

Honestly, I’m just sick of the Patriots.

Brian Mozey, Sports Editor

Winner: Fly Eagles Fly!

Score: 42-35

I’m just hoping it’ll be a good game and I’m predicting it will be. I’m a Vikings fan and an Eagles fan so either way I had a team to cheer for in the Super Bowl. Justin Timberlake should be good. And, of course, Minneapolis is a great place to host the Super Bowl! Should be a fun day of football.

Aaron Marner, Assistant Sports Editor

Winner: Kansas City Chiefs

Score: 16-0

FUN FACT: The Kansas City Chiefs started the 2017 NFL season with a 2-0 record. The two teams they beat? New England and Philadelphia. Go Chiefs.

BONUS FUN FACT: The Chiefs also swept the vastly inferior Denver Broncos for the second consecutive year.

Jack MacDonald, Assistant Sports Editor

Winner: Eagles

Score: 31-24

Ph(D)illy Ph(D)illy!

Parker Reed, Limelight Editor

Winner: Prince (R.I.P.)

Score: 1999-0

As long as there is no hologram, we’re cool.

Isaac Sinclair, Opinion Editor

Winner: Eagles (if we’re lucky)

Score: 24-21

I’m a Minnesota Vikings fan, and as much as it pains me to root for the team that stomped us earlier this year in the playoffs, it would pain me more to see the Patriots win another Super Bowl. So with as little conviction as possible, go Eagles.
