Iowa State women’s basketball coach Bill Fennelly announced Friday that junior center Bride Kennedy-Hopoate has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a foot injury.

Kennedy-Hopoate had been out since the Jan. 27 game at Texas, and Fennelly said the decision was made on Thursday.

“It’s just a collective decision,” Fennelly said. “It’s in the best interest of everyone involved to not let this hang over our head anymore.”

Kennedy-Hopoate, a native of Brisbane, Australia, played in 21 games in her first season for the Cyclones after spending the previous year at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas. Kennedy-Hopoate started 10 games and averaged 17 minutes per contest.

A tough, physical presence inside, Kennedy-Hopoate averaged 6.7 points and 4.2 rebounds per game on 38.5 percent shooting.

The loss of Kennedy-Hopoate means that redshirt junior Claire Ricketts and junior Meredith Burkhall will continue in their roles as the Cyclones’ main post options.
