No. 22 TCU runs over Cyclones, 75-52

Emily Durr’s quick start was not enough for the Cyclones to overcome a dogged performance from the No. 22 TCU Horned Frogs, as Iowa State fell 75-52 on Tuesday night.

Iowa State started hot, with the senior guard from Utica, New York, scoring eight of the Cyclones’ first 12 points. The Cyclones at one point led 14-9, but a late 7-0 run from the Horned Frogs put TCU up 21-16 after one quarter.

Durr finished with 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Cyclones junior Bridget Carleton chipped in with nine points in the first half on 4-of-8 shooting. The seven remaining Cyclones scored a combined five points. That lack of help allowed TCU to take a 43-29 lead at the half. Eight players scored for TCU in the first 20 minutes.

TCU ran away with the game once the third quarter began, with their half-court trap preventing the Cyclones from having any offensive rhythm. The Horned Frogs went on a 7-0 run to begin the quarter and by the end of the third, TCU had pushed its lead to 65-40.

The fourth quarter began with a 10-0 Cyclones run to cut the TCU lead to 15, but the run petered out and the Horned Frogs eased their way to victory. Durr led the Cyclones with 21 points on 7-of-15 shooting.

The Cyclones drop to 9-13 (3-8 Big 12).

Up next for Iowa State is a trip to Manhattan, Kansas, to take on the Kansas State Wildcats. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday.
