The Iowa State volleyball team overcame some sloppiness Friday night at Hilton Coliseum to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

In Iowa State’s first round match-up against the Princeton Tigers, the cardinal and gold swept the black and orange (25-21, 25-17, 25-14). But for a good set and a half, the match was fairly even.

Iowa State and Princeton went back-and-forth in the first set. Then in the second set, after the second media timeout, it was all Cyclones. After being down 15-13 in the second set, Iowa State went on a five-point run to go up 18-15. The Cyclones finished the set on a 4-0 run.

In the third and final set, coach Christy Johnson-Lynch’s squad was dominant from start to finish. The cardinal and gold jumped to an early 10-4 lead. The largest lead Iowa State had in the third set was 12 points.

The Cyclones were led by Jess Schaben and Grace Lazard, who both recorded 14 kills, respectively.

Iowa State will take on the Wisconsin Badgers in the second round of the tournament on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 6:30 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum.
