Former Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads is joining UCLA as a defensive backs coach. Chip Kelly, UCLA’s newly appointed coach, added Rhoads after he became available when the Arkansas staff was let go.

Rhoads joined Bret Bielema at Arkansas in 2016 and most recently served as the defensive coordinator. Rhoads’ defense struggled this season and allowed an average of 438.2 yards per game.

Prior to Arkansas, Rhoads spent seven seasons at the helm for the Cyclones. In Ames, his record was 32-55, highlighted by three bowl appearances and an upset of No. 2 Oklahoma State in 2011.

Rhoads will join a UCLA team that went 6-6 in 2017. He will also be apart of Kelly’s first staff since returning to coach college football.
