Iowa State falls at West Virginia, four-game winning streak snapped

Iowa State’s (6-3, 4-2 Big 12) four-game winning streak was snapped Saturday when the Cyclones fell at West Virginia (6-3, 4-2 Big 12) by a final score of 20-16.

West Virginia wasted no time scoring Saturday. Will Grier and David Sills V connected for a 10-yard touchdown pass on just the fourth play of the game. 7-0, West Virginia

After an Iowa State interception, West Virginia kicked a 28-yard field goal. Less than five minutes into the game, the Mountaineers jumped to a two-possession lead. 10-0, West Virginia

Early in the second quarter, Grier fired a pass 55 yards in the air to Ka’Raun White for a touchdown. The play capped off a 9-play, 94-yard drive. 17-0, West Virginia

Iowa State’s offensive woes continued while West Virginia kept rolling. West Virginia’s Evan Staley connected on another field goal, this time from 36 yards out. 20-0, West Virginia

Iowa State benefited from 30 yards of penalties on the next drive. Garrett Owens nailed a 42-yard field goal to get the Cyclones on the scoreboard. That was the last score before halftime. 20-3, West Virginia

Iowa State came out strong to start the second half. Iowa State scored on a 10-play, 86-yard drive. Kempt found Allen Lazard for a one-yard touchdown. 20-10, West Virginia

The Cyclones continued the scoring streak later in the third quarter. While they couldn’t get in the end zone, Owens hit another field goal, this time from 18 yards out, to cap a 10-play, 65-yard drive. 20-13, West Virginia

Garrett Owens nailed his third field goal of the game in the fourth quarter. His 24-yarder made it a four-point game with 7:19 left in the game. 20-16, West Virginia
