Happy trails (mix): easy road trip snacks

Whether you’re driving home for the holidays or headed somewhere far for Thanksgiving, snacks on a long car ride are a necessity. Try one, or all, of these four trail mix recipes for a snack that’s equal parts sweet, salty and savory, and filling for a long car ride.

Classic Monster Trail Mix

Prep Time: 5 minutes

1/2 cup salted peanuts

1/2 cup raisins

1/2 cup M&Ms

1/4 cup peanut butter chips

1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips 

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and store in an airtight container.

Fall Harvest Trail Mix

Prep Time: 5 minutes 

1/2 cup almonds

1/2 cup pumpkin seeds

1/2 cup craisins

1/4 cup raisins

1/4 cup walnuts

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and store in an airtight container.

Coffee Shop Trail Mix

Prep Time: 5 minutes

1/2 cup hazelnuts

1/2 cup dark chocolate-covered espresso beans

1/2 cup almonds

1/4 cup raisins

1/4 cup white chocolate chips 

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and store in an airtight container.

Spicy Cajun Trail Mix

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

1/2 cup walnuts

1/2 cup pecans

1/2 cup almonds

1/4 cup sunflower seeds

1/4 cup pumpkin seeds

2 tbsp olive oil

1/2 tbsp cayenne pepper

1/4 tbsp salt

1/4 tsp garlic powder 

Heat oven to 350°. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Spread on parchment lined baking sheet, in a single layer. Bake for 10 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes and store in an airtight container.
