The Iowa State men’s golf team is headed back to competition on October 8-9 in the Windon Memorial Classic in Skokie, Illinois.

Northwestern University will host this two-day competition, which consists of 54 holes at the Evanston Golf Club.

Teams confirmed to be competing are Marquette, Indiana, UC Davis, Northern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Iowa State and Northwestern.

For the third consecutive tournament the Cyclones will be on the same course as Northern Illinois and Marquette, having played them in all three competitions previously played.

So far, the Cyclones have not found a first-place finish, but they have had at least one Cyclone golfer finish top-10 on the individual leaderboard.

The Cyclones are coming back from a 13th overall finish at the Erin Hills Collegiate and struggled most of the competition, netting the lowest finish of all season.

True freshman Lachlan Barker recorded a 71 on the last round to earn the young Cyclone his first top-10 performance. He tied for 6th place at 217 (73-7371).

Barker rose into the starting lineup at the Badger Invitational, scoring a 214 (72-70-72), earning him a 15th place finish. He outscored two returning starters from last year Sam Vincent and Tripp Kinney.

He followed that tournament with a 41st place finish in the Northern Intercollegiate.

Previously before that, redshirt senior Denzel Ieremia was the top performer for the Cyclones, netting two top-10 finishes at the Badger Invitational and the Northern Intercollegiate.

Ieremia led the team last year with four top-10 finishes during the 2016-17 season. This season alone he has two, and could be in pace for another.

In his last competition Ieremia tied for 27th place after scoring a 225 (79-71-75).

Sophomore Tripp Kinney is another starter with a lot to prove in this tournament. The Iowa native has been in the starting lineup for every tournament in his Cyclone career.

His 70th place finish in the Marquette Intercollegiate marked the first time this season that Kinney placed among the bottom half of the individual leaderboard scoring a 236 (77-82-77).

The Cyclones will conclude the fall season, marking the last time they will play this year.

The starting lineup this season has yet to be determined, as this season alone coach Andrew Tank has used a variation of lineups.

The competition this season among the younger players has been open since the start of the season.

Sam Vincent had been in the starting lineup all last year, but has started only one competition and also competed in the Northern Intercollegiate as an individual.

Danny Daniels has moved up to fifth place in the starting lineup. This is his highest placement in his freshman season and had a 41st overall finish in the Northern Intercollegiate.

Daniels performance in the Marquette Intercollegiate was the lowest for any Cyclone this season. His score of 239 (81-80-78), placed him tied for 79th, the lowest score by a starter in the 2017-18 season.

The Cyclones will hit the links on October 8. The forecasted weather is expected to be in the high 70s and low 60s.
