And just like that, the Iowa State’s men’s golf team 2017-18 fall season is over.

The Cyclones completed their last tournament of this fall semester and go out on a top-5 finish, jumping nine spots after being tied for ninth place after the first round of competition.

The Cyclones concluded the Windon Memorial, in Skokie, Illinois hosted by the Evanston Golf Club, in fourth place totaling an 845 after a 54-hole tournament that lasted Oct. 8-9.

Pent State (280-277-278) and host Northwestern (276-286-273) tied for first place, both scoring an 835 in the two-day competition. Coming in third place was Indiana (277-283-279) 839. Then, the Cyclones (283-284-278) 845.

The Cyclones ended the tournament with two Cyclones finishing in the top-10 individually.

True freshman Lachlan Barker (70-37-70) 207 finished third place overall, the highest position in the leaderboard in his young Cyclone career. His sub-70 score in the second round of competition earned him his first top-3 finish.

He dropped two spots from first place in the third round, he came in one stroke from first place medalists Patrick Flavin (65-72-69) 206, out of Miami University (Ohio), and Brendon Doyle (69-72-65) 206, out of Indiana.

Barker had seven birdies and an eagle during the tournament.

Redshirt senior Denzel Ieremia (71-73-66) 210 did not finish too far away from Barker, tying for 10th thanks to his performance in the final round.

Ieremia, who lead the team last year with four top-10 finishes, now has three top-10 finishes in four competitions this season, and nine over his whole Cyclone career.

His third-round performance of 66 was the second lowest score by anyone in the final round. Due to this, Ieremia rose up 25 spots on the leadership board.

Danny Daniels (71-72-72) 215 tied for 29th. His performance in the Windon Memorial was a statistical improvement from the previous tournament he participated in.

In the Erin Hills Intercollegiate he failed to stay even with the par, going for (80-81-78) 239, but in this competition Daniels limited his strokes over par to only two.

Frank Lindwall (72-74-70) 216 ended the competition tied for 33rd soaring up 13 spots in the third round. He ended the competition even on par.

Lindwall came into this competition after tying for 79th place, where his score of 239 was a result of bogeys. In this tournament he did not go over the par other than the second round.

Tripp Kinney (71-72-77) 220 tied for 56th place, dropping 31 places from the previous day. His score of 220 placed him as the lowest-placed Cyclone in this tournament.

His scoring could be attributed with the bogeys committed in the third round. Where on four consecutive holes, he went over the par by at least one or two strokes.

Fellow sophomore Sam Vincent out-performed Kinney in this memorial, competing as an individual tying in 45th place.

Vincent (72-73-73) 218, was previously on the starting line-up but has found himself out of the starters, his individual performance placed him 24 strokes over last place Sunny Yan out of Columbia.

The fall season consisted of two top-5 finishes, but no first-place finishes. In three out of four competitions so far, the Cyclones managed to have a finish in the top-10.

This Cyclone starting line-up consisted of only three returning starters from last year. Two have earned to stay within the starting lineup.

This is the third consecutive tournament that the starting five was composed of the five golfers named, and second where Vincent was competing as an individual.

The Cyclones will now regroup and plan for the remaining six tournaments in the spring season.

Their next competition will be at the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson, Arizona on Jan. 29-30, 2018.
