The Iowa State women’s golf team will travel to Albuquerque, N.M., to tee off their 2017-18 season at the Dick McGuire Invitational that runs from Sunday to Monday.

The Cyclones are set to face off against UC Davis, Fresno State, Oklahoma State, Central Arkansas, UC Berkeley, Stanford, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, San Diego and Denver.

The only new golfers on the squad are Alana Campbell, of New Zealand, and Tzu-Yu Chou, of Taiwan.

Campbell was ranked in the top 400 in the world (No. 379 in the WAGR). Campbell is a two-time winner of the Carrus open and represented her country at the Queen Sirikit Cup in 2017. In 2016 Campbell was the top qualifier at the New Zealand Women’s Amateur, finishing in second place.

Chou won the Hong Kong Junior Open Championship and was runner-up medalist at the Mercedes Benz Junior Championship in 2016. She also tied for fourth at the 2016 Hong Kong Ladies Amateur and claimed the title at the Yeangder National Amateur Open.

The returning members are sophomore Amelia Grohn, junior Chayanit Wangmahaporn and seniors M.J. Kamin, Nattapan Siritrai and Celia Barquin Arozamena.

The Cyclones made regionals for the sixth consecutive season last year, but had hopes to qualify for nationals for the second time in program history. In 11 events, Iowa state never finished higher than third place, but never worse than six spots from last place.

Last year’s season came to a close at the NCCA regional tournament in Raleigh, N.C., as Iowa State was unable to reach the minimum ranking needed to advance to nationals.

This season Iowa State is looking to qualify for nationals, focusing on improving their strokes and strategies when it comes to facing their opponents in the tournaments.
