The Iowa State men’s golf team starts their 2017-18 season this Sunday at the Badger Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Wis. The tournament will run through next Tuesday.

This will mark Andrew Tank’s seventh season coaching the Iowa State golf program, while assistant Chad Keohane is entering his fourth season.

This will mark Iowa State’s second consecutive year starting the season in Madison, having finished first after carding a 852 (286-288-278). Ten strokes ahead of second place Nevada at 862 (292-285-285).

Redshirt senior Denzel Ieremia out of Hamilton, New Zealand, sophomore and fellow patriot Sam Vincent, along with sophomore Tripp Kinney out of Waukee, Iowa, were all part of the 2016-2017 roster that grabbed the victory in Madison last season.

Ieremia finished seventh in scoring with 212 (71-71-70).

Kinney tied for 16th shooting a 217 (71-74-72).

This 2017-18 roster enters the season with a lot of new faces.

These freshmen include: Lachlan Barker from Willunga, Australia, Ricky Costello from Homer Glen, Ill., Danny Daniels from Cheshunt, England and Iowa native Frank Lindwall out of Cedar Rapids.

Upperclassmen still on the roster include: senior Jorge Utrilla from Zaragoza, Spain and junior Conner Koberg from Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Cyclones will start to rebuild after losing seniors Jack Carter, Ruben Sondjaja and school record holder Nick Voke, who are now playing professionally.

The Cyclones will be joined by Oakland, Texas A&M, Alabama-Birmingham, Nevada, South Dakota State, Illinois State, Loyola-Chicago, Butler, Rutgers, Marquette, Nebraska and Big 12 rivals Kansas and Kansas State.

The invitational will begin Sunday and end on Tuesday, playing one round each day. The starting lineup has yet to be confirmed.
