The Iowa State men’s golf team rallied in the third round of competition, jumping over Purdue and Michigan to end in third place at the Northern Collegiate. Northern Illinois sunk two spots after being tied with the Cyclones during the first day of competition.

The competition was hosted at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. This was the same location of the 2016-17 Division 1 NCAA Championship.

Marquette (274-272-287=833) won the tournament, 13 strokes ahead of Virginia (277-291-278=846), and 27 strokes ahead of Iowa State (286-291-283= 860).

Redshirt senior Denzel Ieremia (72-71-66= 209) led the late rally, tying for fourth place out of the 72 competing players to help the Cyclones rise two spots.

For the third round, Ieremia recorded four birdies and one eagle en route to his 17th sub-70 low of 66.

His fourth place tie gives him his eighth top-10 finish in his career, and second of the 2017-18 season.

True freshman Frank Lindwall (69-74-71) tied for 14th spot. That marked Lindwall’s first top-15 finish and his first sub-70 career round.

Sophomore Tripp Kinney finished tied for the 33rd spot with his overall score of 220 (71-77-72).

Freshmen Lachlan Barker (74-73-75=222) and Danny Daniels ((75-73-74=222) tied for 41st.

Sam Vincent, a sophomore, played as an independent and tied for 63rd (73-80-78=231).

Iowa State’s second competition of the season gave the Cyclones a lot of information about their team. Three starters that competed in this competition progressed their scoring.

Ieremia tied for fourth after tying for 10th only one week ago at the Badger Invitational.

Lindwall went from 74th overall to tied for 14th.

Daniels went from tied for 54th, to tied for 41st.

The Cyclones will be back on the links Oct. 1-3 at the Erin Hills Collegiate in Erin Hills, Wisconsin.
