The Iowa State men’s golf team concluded the first day of competition at the Northern Intercollegiate in Sugar Grove, Illinois.

After the first two rounds, Marquette has taken lead of the competition scoring a 546 (274-272), 12 strokes ahead of second place Virginia (277+291=568). In third place is Purdue (286+289=575) who jumped up 3 spots since the beginning of the second round.

The Cyclones are currently in fifth place after scoring a 577 (286-291), one stroke behind fourth place, and host, Northern Illinois (283+293=576).

The Cyclones did manage to soar one spot up from the beginning of the second round.

Collectively, the golf team is one above par, but redshirt senior Denzel Ieremia and true freshman Frank Lindwall are leading the pack by posting rounds in the low 70s.

Ieremia posted a 143 (72-71). He is currently tied for 16th place out of the 72 total competitors. He posted nine birdies on the day and an eagle, but did posted eight bogeys in the two rounds of competition.

Linwall also scored a 143 (69-74), tying him for 16th along with Ieremia. He posted nine birdies, bogeyed six times and had one double bogey.

After both these Cyclones, true freshman Lachlan Barker, postes a 147 (74-73), tying him for 33rd, three over par. He fired seven birdies, eight bogeys and a double bogey.

Sophomore Tripp Kinney finished the day tying for 42nd place along with fellow teammate Danny Daniels.

Kinney finished with a score of 148 (71-77). He fired seven birdies, nine bogeys and a double bogey.

Daniels finished with a 148 (75-73). He had four birdies, six bogeys and a double bogey. This will mark his first start in the starting five in his Cyclone career.

Competing as an individual was Sam Vincent, who posted a 153 (73-80). He posted three bogeys, 11 bogeys and a double bogey.

Vincent was taken out of the starting line-up and Daniels replaced him. Daniels beat Vincent last week in the Badger Invitational placing 54th over Vincent’s 77th.

The third and final round of competition will be completed Monday.
