Iowa State men’s golf struggle on first day of Badger Invitational

The first day of the Badger Invitational in Madison, Wis. concluded today and the Iowa State men’s golf team is tied for ninth place with Illinois State after scoring a 293.

The Cyclones are 17 strokes behind first place Texas A&M (243), while Wisconsin and Nevada trail the Aggies in second place at (285)

Sophomore Tripp Kinney and true freshman Lachlan Barker lead the Cyclones’, who have five players competing. Both are even for the round, scoring a 72 to stay on par.

Kinney had an eagle and two birdies after struggling with a few bogeys and a double bogey.

Barker shot four birdies, but also had four bogeys in his colligate debut.

Redshirt senior Denzel Ieremia ended the first round with a score of 73, shooting one over par. That was after Ieremia double bogeyed on two holes, but made up for it with two birdies.

Sophomore Sam Vincent shot a 76, ending with three bogeys, two birdies and a double-bogey.

Freshman Frank Lindwall ended the day firing an 84 in his colligate debut, finding himself 12 over par. He had six bogeys and two three-plus bogeys.

Freshmen Ricky Costello, Denny Daniels and junior Connor Koberg all competed in this competition as individuals. Their scores will not affect the overall score of the Cyclones in this competition.

Costello scored a 79, while Daniels scored an 80, and Koberg an 81.

The competition will resume tomorrow Sept. 11, 2017.
