8 Netflix shows to prepare for Mindhunter

Netflix released the trailer for its newest crime show, Mindhunter, coming Oct. 13. The 10 episodes focus on a group of FBI agents who study the behaviors of serial killers and sexual predators.

In order to compare traits, the FBI agents must interview some of the most infamous and violent killers in history.

In order to prepare for some of the gory, historic crimes, here is a list of True Crime movies and documentaries on Netflix:

Zodiac (2007)

Featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr., this move follows the chilling actions the Zodiac Killer took in the 1970s to taunt the city of San Francisco through messages in the newspapers.

The Witness (2015)

In 1964, Kitty Genovese was stabbed multiple times in front of 37-38 witnesses, yet they have still not caught her killer. Her brother, Bill Genovese has been on a 10 year journey to learn more about his sister’s murder and how 37-38 people could not help distinguish what happened to Kitty.

Into the Abyss (2011)

The documentary takes a look after the crime has been committed and the question of capital punishment is debated. Killers contemplate humanity and spirituality as they potentially face the table of death.

H.H. Holmes: America’s First Serial Killer (2003)

In the late 1800s, H.H. Holmes made a house in Chicago with one room dedicated to his fantasies. The torture chamber he composed would become notorious as Holmes because the first, widely known serial killer in America.

Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer (2003)

While working as a prostitute between 1989-1990, Aileen Wuornos killed multiple johns by shooting them point-blank. Her final words before her execution in 2002 were, “yes, I would just like to say I’m sailing with the rock, and I’ll be back, like Independence Day, with Jesus. June 6, like the movie. Big mother ship and all, I’ll be back, I’ll be back.”

The Axe Murders of Villisca (2016)

This horror film is based off of a brutal murder that happened in Villisca, Iowa in 1912. The movie remains on a fictional path with a group of young, ghost hunters searching the house for secrets in order to reveal the original killer.

Biggie & Tupac (2002)

Nick Broomfield, british documentarian takes a look into two of the the most famous rappers and their murders. While looking through their cases and their history, Broomfield uncovers some “surprises.”

My Friend Rockefeller (2015)

Christian Gerhartsreiter spent decades he used five different identities, including a Rockefeller heir, but his past caught up to him. Still, he remained the longest running con artist in FBI history. He also was a killer. This documentary interviews people who knew him as his various identities and his trial.
