Gov. Kim Reynolds has announced a new cyber training program for students called CyberStart.

The new program is a partnership between the SANS (SysAdmin, Audit, Network and Security) Institute and the State of Iowa.

CyberStart, an online game of discovery, is meant to teach students basic cyber security skills and to identify the next generation of the cyber workforce.

High school juniors, seniors, community college and college students are encouraged to participate in CyberStart.

Along with participating in the training, students will also be competing against students in six other states for $650,000 in scholarships.

Students can register now through Friday, August 4 and will receive a mini version of CyberStart. Then, if the student is able to complete eight challenges they will be invited to take part in the full version of CyberStart.

No prior knowledge is needed to participate.

Students can register here.
