Big events are in the area, with Ames and Des Moines both having events this weekend to choose from. From the 80/35 musical, to the new exhibit at the Octagon Center, music and arts enthusiasts of all kinds will have plenty to take part in.

80/35 Music Festival

The 80/35 is celebrating it’s tenth anniversary of bringing people together through music and growing the musical economy in Des Moines. 

Community Gallery: JES LEE: DIGITAL DREAMS OF YOU exhibit begins and will go from July 7 to August 12.

Octagon Center for the Arts

Open: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Jessica Shimek, an artist from Minnesota State University, brings ‘Cyberpunk’ art to the Octagon Center for the Arts through the medium of photography with an emphasis on human touch, layered images created around homes, objects, and structures.”

DG’s Taphouse

Three talented bands will perform a mix of alternative and rock music into the night.

Saturday, July 8

Ames Farmer’s Market

8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

One can expect to enjoy shopping for Iowa-grown produce, hand-crafted items, and baked goods while listening to the musical talent of the Redz Bluez and the Virginia Creepers.

Sunday, July 9

Garden Art Fair

Reiman Gardens

9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

$7 for adults, $6 for seniors 65+, $3 for kids ages 4-17, and free for kids ages 3 and under, members and ISU students.

Reiman Gardens hosts their annual Garden Art Fair with 60 returning artists who will come to display their “nature and  garden-inspired” art.

Redz Bluez

Roosevelt Park, 7 p.m.

The Redz Bluez will be showcasing their musical talent for everyone to enjoy. In case of of a whether change, an announcement would be made by 5 p.m.

Where are we? Geography at Hoggatt

Ames Historical Society

2:15 p.m.

Free Admission

Glenn Sibbel, a Hoggatt school decent will be presenting a geography lesson on the village of ames, states, and the prairie in the 1860s. Following the presentation will be a geography word game.

Lutheran Church of Hope satellite

8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Zeke’s will be providing musical entertainment by the Lutheran Church of Hope for all to enjoy.
