Men’s Cyclone Golf Team fights back to lead the Seattle University Redhawk Invitational.

The first day of the Seattle University Redhawk Invitational in University Place Washington ended today. The Iowa State men’s golf team are in first place scoring 572 (287-285).

The Cyclones are ahead one over No. 35 Northwestern, but are three over the par.

From the start of the tournament, the Cyclones get off hot, starting off at first place and rotating from first through third place along with Northwestern and host Seattle University.

Out of the first the 93 players competing, the Cyclones have all five starters within the top 50 in the individual leadership.

Freshman, and Iowa native Tripp Kinney is tied for 3rd place, after scoring 139 (71-68). A complete ten birdies over the two rounds of competition. Six of them coming from the second round.

Behind him is senior out of Australia, Ruben Sondjaja. Performing nine birdies on the day scoring 141 (70-71).

Tied for 13th spot, is Nick Voke, senior out of New Zealand, scoring 144 (73-71). He had a solid day, scoring five birdies, and staying par for the most of the two rounds.

Sam Vincent, freshman out from New Zealand, is tied for 36th place after scoring 149 (73-76) along with fellow countryman, redshirt junior Denzel Ieremia (74-75).

Both struggled to be under par, with Vincent only scoring two birdies and being over par in seven holes. Ieremia scored six birdies, but was over par 11 holes.

Since the tournament started it’s been a three-way battle between host Seattle, Northwestern, and Iowa State.

Day two will recap on Tuesday April 4th for the final round of competition.
