Staebler takes sixth in 800; Luque finishes ninth in triple jump at NCAAs

Jasmine Staebler’s breakout sophomore season concluded Saturday with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Indoor National Championships in College Station, Texas.

The Iowa State women’s distance runner secured First Team All-America honors, finishing in 2:04.08. 

Her three points in the event were all the Cyclones scored at the meet as they finished tied for 47th in the team standings. Oregon finished first with 84 points.

Staebler’s teammate, Jhoanmy Luque, finished ninth in the triple jump with a 43-4 1/4 mark. She earned Second Team All-America honors for the second straight day after finishing 12th in the long jump on Friday.

Iowa State will begin its outdoor season next Friday and Saturday at the Tulsa Duels in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
