Iowa State falls in first Big 12 Tournament game

OKLAHOMA CITY — Iowa State fell to Kansas State in its Big 12 Tournament opener Saturday 74-67.

The Cyclones took a 15-7 lead after the first quarter but were unable to keep it for long. Emily Durr had eight points to help Iowa State take the early lead.

In the second quarter, Kansas State came roaring back. Even with star player Breanna Lewis in foul trouble for much of the half, Iowa State struggled to get much going.

The Cyclones shot just 20.6 percent in the first half as Kansas State took a 25-24 lead into the break.

Kansas State opened up the game in the third quarter, taking a 12-point lead with just over two minutes to go.

The Cyclones fought back.

Iowa State tied it up with just over six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter at 56-56.

From there, Kansas State took over, pulling away in the final minutes to get the win.

Emily Durr had a team-high 21 points on 7-for-22 shooting. Bridget Carleton, Seanna Johnson and Jadda Buckley struggled, combining to go 9-for-28 and scoring just 23 points.
