Kansas to bring 70s rock to Hoyt Sherman

70s American rock band Kansas will be playing at Hoyt Sherman in Des Moines on Friday, March 31 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their most popular album: Leftoverture.

Kansas’ music originally gained recognition on album-based charts but is known today for hit singles like “Carry On Wayward Son” and “Dust in the Wind.”

Over the years Kansas has sold more music than most bands could ever come close to. Many bands dream of one day selling a gold record or maybe even a platinum record. Kansas’ 1976 Leftoverture, the album that brought us “Carry On Wayward Son,” is five times platinum and 1977 Point of Know Return is four times platinum.

1979’s Monolith is certified platinum and Kansas has another four certified gold albums.

Since the band’s beginning in Topeka, Kansas, in 1969, the band has gone through a number of changes. The group’s name changed twice before landing on Kansas in 1970 and their lineup has changed numerous times.

Kansas may be considered classic rock now, but its music is still prevalent in the entertainment world and is finding new fans in unsuspecting places.

The popular television show Supernatural currently airing on The CW uses the song “Carry On Wayward Son” in the last episode of every season to recap what has happened and set up the finale.

This use has a new generation of 13 to 28 year old television fans interested in Kansas.

With a significant amount of new support, Kansas is likely to attract an audience of mixed generations. The show will celebrate Leftoverture‘s 40th birthday and 2016 release The Prelude Implicit.
