Softball team succeeds in second day of Battle at the Beach tournament

Iowa State’s softball team took both games during their second day of play in Fort Meyers, Florida.

The Cyclones (14-16) began their day facing Canisius (10-12). Within the first inning, Canisius earned two runs while the Cyclones scored zero. However, by the bottom of the fourth inning, the Cyclones tied the game when Niki Turner and Kaila Konz both made it to home base.

Then in the same inning, the Cyclones rallied two more runs, gaining the lead of 4-2. Canisius scored one more run in the game, but were unable to defeat the Cyclones. The final score ended at 4-3.

In the Cyclone’s second game of the day, the opposing team scored first yet again. Drexel (3-5) earned one run in the first inning, but this was the last time the Dragons scored in the game.

The Cyclones tied the game in the second inning, when Konz made it to home base after a throwing error made by Drexel.

In the fifth and sixth innings, the Cyclones rallied off eight more runs, advancing their lead to 9-1.

Pitcher Savannah Sanders allowed only one hit the entire game, and had four strikeouts.

The Cyclones end their time in Fort Meyers on Saturday, when they play FGCU at 4 p.m.
