The Iowa State women’s basketball team came away with another dominant over West Virginia, 68-53, Saturday afternoon at Hilton Coliseum.

It seemed at halftime that the Cyclones were not going to dominate the Mountaineers like the last time out.

They went into halftime with just a three-point lead, shooting only 36 percent from the field (13-36) and nine percent from three point range (1-11).

That all changed when Iowa State came out for the second half. The Cyclones took their lead from just three to 14 in a matter of minutes. Over the span of the entire third quarter, Iowa State out-scored West Virginia 19-8.

With a 12-point lead to start the fourth quarter, the Cyclones never let this one get close.

Iowa State’s big three were again the biggest producers. Jadda Buckley, Seanna Johnson and Bridget Carleton combined for 52 of the teams 68 points. Buckley lead the team with 20 points.

Carleton, who had many family and friends make the trip from Canada. did not disappoint her fans. She finished the game with 16 points and six rebounds.

Defense was going to be a big key to the game especially limiting the touches of the Big 12’s best shooter, Lanay Montgomery. Before the game, coach Bill Fennelly talked about how great of a job they did against her in the first game, calling it the best post defense they’ve played all year.

Although Montgomery finished the game with 15 points and 10 rebounds, the rest of the team was held in check. West Virginia shot just 32 percent from the field and committed 16 turnovers.

This was an important win for the Cyclones as it moves them into fifth place in the conference with just three regular season games to play.
