Every semester, the Veterans Center hosts a meet and greet for faculty, staff and student veterans. This semester, the event will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Colonel Pride Veterans Lounge in the Memorial Union.

The event will be open to the public, and everyone is welcome. Some veterans take advantage of this opportunity by inviting their professors and spending time with them.

Jathan Chicoine, director of the Veterans Center, talked about how the event is great for helping the veterans to network and create new connections.

“[This event] helps to increase the opportunity for interaction from faculty and staff to the veterans,” Chicoine said.

There will be refreshments provided during the event by the Iowa State Veterans Center. Chicoine said the event is a simple get-together to interact with one another.

Alex Young, leadership and programming assistant at the Veterans Center, said that it is important for students to feel like they have a place on campus where they can rely on and have a sense of community.

“[The Veterans Center’s goal for this event] is to create an opportunity to develop community and allow students to network with others on campus,” Young said.

Young said the event creates opportunities for people to learn about the veteran’s community and about the veterans themselves.
