While a newcomer got the Iowa State women’s track and field team its first top-place finish at the Hawkeye Invite in Iowa City on Friday, it was two of the team’s veterans who led the Cyclones on day two.

Ariana Kuhn, who is a senior transfer from Western Kentucky, got things started for Iowa State on day one of the meet with a first-place and personal-best throw of 63 feet 3.25 inches in the weight throw.

Redshirt junior Katie Reeves led off day two for Iowa State, taking first in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet 6 inches.

Leading the distance group, redshirt junior Bethanie Brown started her indoor season strong, taking first in the 3,000-meter run in 10:00.78. Brown’s teammate, Megan Schott, took second in the event.

Other notable Iowa State performances from the meet included a pair of second-place finishes by freshman Gwynne Wright and sophomore Grace Gibbons in the 800-meter run and mile, respectively.

Freshman Carsyn Spurgeon added a third-place finish in the long jump, and Iowa State newcomer Tasha Frazier recorded the ninth-fastest time in Iowa State history in the 60-meter hurdles, taking fourth overall in the event.
