Winter stories

Going to school in the Midwest forces students to be friends of the winter. This season can be brutal, but it allows us to make lasting memories in the snow.

“It was the last day of the show in February and we were headed back home on super icy roads. Our trailer full of horses ended up getting stuck on a hill and they needed a tractor to pull us out. All the cars were getting stuck and we were there for hours.”

– Rebecca Ness, a senior in marketing and agriculture business

“I was walking into my house when I slipped on some ice. It felt like nothing was really wrong until I was sore. My stepmom brought me into the ER and I actually broke a bone in my hand- my dominant left hand.”

– Makayla Richards, freshman in child, adult and family services

“I was walking around campus and I saw a guy attempting to use a shovel as a snowboard down a hill. It didn’t work out well.”

– Brooke Chesmore, a freshman in open option

“There was the time we shoveled the snow off the track the first week of track and field, then the boys team and girls team had a giant snowball fight. Afterwards, we made a giant snowman.”

– Tyler Kirscht, a junior in engineering

“Once it was 70 degrees and 19 degrees in the same day. Another time when it snowed, it was barely a quarter inch but people were driving 20 under the speed limit.”

– Avery Korns, a sophomore in animal science

“My junior year of high school I was walking and it was super icy and everyone knew it was super icy. I was super confident though, so I sped up. Right as I reached the front door I wiped out in front of everyone. I just lied there and it was really awkward.”

– Mackenzie Carroll, a sophomore in kinesiology and health

“I just remember wrestling in these giant, fluffy winter suits.”

– Allison Little, a freshman in food science
