Iowa State coach Steve Prohm said Friday he expects 4-star forward Cameron Lard to arrive in Ames on Saturday before the team’s game against Texas.

Lard, who was cleared as an academic qualifier by the NCAA this week, finished classes at Pro Vision Academy in Houston, Texas, in the fall after missing the summer and fall semesters at Iowa State. He committed in April.

Prohm said the team will focus on slowly integrating Lard into classes and practice.

“He’ll be here tomorrow, and I’ll probably meet with him Sunday,” Prohm said. “Then we’ll slowly disintegrate him into the process, really, of just academics, getting his physical, really just getting him acclimated in the first week.

“Then slowly get him his strength and conditioning programs starting, and then his individual workouts starting. And then slowly acclimate him into practice.”

Prohm said Lard won’t travel with the team in the next couple of weeks, or maybe not even at all, while he is still getting settled in with school.

Lard will be immediately eligible to play for the Cyclones, but the coaching staff could opt to redshirt him to keep four years of eligibility. With no college experience and the heart of Big 12 play arriving, it seems unlikely Lard would see the court this season.

But Prohm didn’t rule out that possibility. If Lard could potentially help the team win games down the stretch, Prohm said it would be something to consider.

“That’s something that we’ve got to look at,” Prohm said. “If he’s seriously going to make a difference, then that’s something that we’ve got to seriously look at. That’s a long way off, but it’s something that we would look at.”
