Pair of ISU athletes in top 10 after day one of heptathlon at Drake Relays

Junior Kaci Storm runs her leg of the women’s 4×400-meter relay at the Drake Relays on April 24. Iowa State placed 16th with a time of 3:43.61.

Senior Kaci Storm and freshman Emma Whigham are off to strong starts in the heptathlon competition at the Drake Relays. 

Storm currently sits tied for sixth place in the event with a day-one score of 2,893 points, while Whigham is ninth with 2,817 points.

Storm results

  • 100-meter hurdles: 14.56 seconds, sixth place
  • High jump: 4 feet 10.25 inches, t-14th place
  • Shot put: 34 feet 9.75 inches, fifth place
  • 200-meter dash: 25.69 seconds, sixth place

Whigham results

  • 100-meter hurdles: 15.15 seconds, 10th place
  • High jump: 4 feet 11.25 inches, t-11th place
  • Shot put: 28 feet 0.25 inches, 15th place
  • 200-meter dash: 24.55 seconds, second place

Whigham and Storm will be back in action Thursday at Drake Stadium for the conclusion of the heptathlon, which is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
