ISU men’s basketball well represented in Big 12 awards

The season isn’t over yet, but Iowa State is already taking home some hardware. 

Georges Niang earned All-Big 12 First-Team honors for the second consecutive season, and junior Deonte Burton was unanimously selected as the Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Year on Sunday as the Big 12 announced its annual regular-season awards. 

Burton is the fourth Cyclone in the past five seasons to win the award. Former Cyclones Royce White, Will Clyburn and DeAndre Kane previously won the award in 2012, 2013 and 2014, respectively. 

Junior point guard Monté Morris earned All-Big 12 Second-Team recognition for the second consecutive season as well.

Jameel McKay, Abdel Nader and Matt Thomas all earned honorable mention honors.
