In Ames, both members of the Iowa House are up for reelection.

House District 45

Incumbent Rep. Beth Wessel-Kroeschell, a Democrat representing district 45, which includes most of Ames, except the ISU campus, some of campustown and the northern part of the city, has filed for reelection.

Wessel-Kroeschell has two Republican challengers who have filed.

Sondra Childs-Smith, a Republican from Ames, filed on March 8, and has launched campaign pages on social media. Childs-Smith has posted several times criticizing Wessel-Kroeschell’s position on abortion.

Diane Waddy Romero, a Republican from Ames, filed for the seat on Friday.

House District 46

Incumbent Lisa Heddens, a Democrat from Ames, was the only Democrat to file for the seat, and no Republican challengers filed, meaning Heddens will run unopposed again.

District 46 includes the northern part of Ames, Iowa State’s central campus and a portion of campustown.

Senate District 23

State Sen. Herman Quirmbach, D-Ames, is not up for reelection this year.
