Emma Hassemer

When most people think of Valentine’s Day, they think of hearts, the color red and Cupid. But, when I think of the holiday, I think of creative ways to show my love for others. Here is a list of easy DIY Valentine’s Day gifts that are easy, inexpensive and fun to make.

1. “52 reasons why I love you” deck of cards

This is a perfect gift to give to your boyfriend, girlfriend, family member or best friend. For this DIY, you will need a deck of cards, sharpie and string.  On each card of the deck, write a nice message saying what you like about that person and continue for each card. When finished writing all 52 reasons, put two hole punches in each card so that it opens up like a book. Then, put string through the holes and tie a bow or double knot at the end. This is not only a gift you can make with household items, but it’s really meaningful and will really show how much you love the person you give this to!

2. Canvas painting

Canvas paintings can be a fun way to show off your artistic skills. For this gift, you will need a canvas of your choice and canvas paint. Lightly draw your desired design that you want in pencil before beginning to paint. Then, take your favorite Valentine’s Day colors and paint away! Once you are finished, let it dry over night. This DIY could be a gift to yourself that you hang up in your room or you can give it someone else so they can enjoy your work of art!

3. Date jar

This DIY is perfect to give to your boyfriend or girlfriend for those nights you have no idea what to do. What you’ will need is a mason jar, paint, a sharpie of your choice, heart stickers and paper of your choice. Take the mason jar and write whatever you’d like on it, for example “Valentine’s Day date jar”. Next, paint the rim of the mason jar. At the bottom, place heart stickers or any other decorations to dress up the jar. Once you have completed that, cut small strips of computer paper and write fun date ideas that you and your partner can do, such as going to a movie, going to the mall, hiking, having a picnic, ect. Next time you and your partner are bored, you can let the jar pick the date or activity for you!

4. Valentine’s Day Oreos

Who doesn’t like receiving tasty presents on Valentine’s Day? This DIY treat is delicious and easy to make. You will need red velvet Oreo cookies, a bag of white chocolate chips, and festive V-day sprinkles. First, put the bag of white chocolate chips into a microwavable bowl. Microwave the chocolate chips in 30-second intervals and stir in between until the chocolate is melted and smooth. Next, dip half of a red velvet Oreo cookie into the bowl. Once half of the cookie is covered with chocolate, take your festive sprinkles and drizzle them over the frosting portion of the cookie. Place the cookie on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper so the frosting can dry. Allow 30 minutes before eating them. Anyone can enjoy this Valentine’s Day treat!
