ISU running back Joshua Thomas and wide receiver D’Vario Montgomery are no longer with the football team, Iowa State announced in a news release Wednesday.

Thomas, who just finished his freshman season, decided to leave the team and transfer schools. Montgomery, who was a redshirt junior, was dismissed because of a violation of team rules, according to the news release.

Thomas, the second-string running back for most of last season, was primarily used in short, tough-to-get yardage situations. He broke the ISU freshman record for rushing touchdowns in a season with seven.

Thomas also put up 295 yards on the ground on 75 carries.

Montgomery was part of the highly-touted receiving corps with now-graduated Quenton Bundrage and now-junior Allen Lazard.

Montgomery had 335 receiving yards on 27 receptions with three touchdowns.
