Hands like Houses will be releasing their new album “Dissonants” on Friday.

Jacob Beals

“Dissonants” is the third album by Australian rock band Hands Like Houses. It is set to be released on Friday and is currently available for pre-order through iTunes.

“I Am” kicks off the album with a high energy and a heavy rock beat from the guitar. This sets the mood of the record right away, and the track is memorable for building excitement from the start of the album.

Here is the music video for “I Am”:

The album has a few songs on harsher aspects of the world and the darker side of how people treat each other.

“Perspectives” is one of these tracks. The lyrics are about how maddening it can be when no one listens to a person’s thoughts or opinions.

Noticing the things that go on in the world is in “Colourblind.” It reminds the audience how easy it is to forget how big of a difference we can make together in society.

Here is the music video for “Colourblind,” recently released:

“New Romantics” shifts the focus from critiquing society to the frustrations that come with improving a person’s love life. The song has a lot to do with how people think they need to change themselves to fall in love and the bad consequences that can come from those changes.

The storms in life are sung about in “Glasshouse.” In the song, the lyrics convey how weak our emotions can be when hard times come. The music is loud and it’s all played in a very frustrated manner, as someone may feel during these times.

The pain in lead singer Trenton Woody’s voice can be heard in the song “Division Symbols.” The words mention how people’s wrongful actions can tear another person apart. The song is backed up with gentle music from a piano while it still keeps the heavy rock in a nice balance.

A prominent drum beat is audible at the start of “Stillwater.” It offers an interesting critique on people in society and how they have lost their way. The song also cautions us to turn around before things become worse.

Hands Like Houses has been updating their Twitter, counting down to the release of “Dissonants.”

In “Momentary” the lyrics seemed to be aimed more towards a person’s feelings as words are used to show how small our lives can be compared to the big picture and how easy it is to feel small in life. The song is one of the more gentle tracks on the album and it fits really well with the band’s lyrical style.

“Motion Sickness” is an interesting take on a broken relationship as it questions, “what would happen if the two had never met?” The song makes listeners think about fate and the impact people can have on each others’ lives.

The longing of wanting to see someone again is in “Degrees of Separation.” The song digs deep into the emotions that come with missing another person. Though the song is upbeat, the lyrics reveal sadness within the song.

“Grey Havens” is about the unknown that comes with death and how the end of life can be something people worry about. The song also tells listeners to make the most of their own lives because things shouldn’t end with regret.

“Bloodlines” closes off the album. Worries of the future and not being enough are heard in the song and how important it is not to waste the time we have now.

There is a lot of exciting music in “Dissonants” and it’s all backed up by lyrics that involve problems in relationships, society and personal life, all of which are being critiqued. At the same time the words of this album can inspire an audience to think about these aspects in their own lives.
