It’s been a while since we’ve done power rankings. But, better late than never, right?

With less than one month to go in Big 12 play, the conference race is heating up.

Here are this week’s power rankings:

1. Kansas (19-4, 7-3)

Kansas beat Kansas State and TCU handily over the past week. Remember its Big 12/SEC Challenge game against Kentucky? It won that one too. Kansas has proved that it belongs atop of the Big 12. Case closed (at least for now).

2. Oklahoma (19-3, 7-3)

I know they’re technically tied for second in the conference, but the Sooners are still the best team in the Big 12. And I know that they just lost on the road to Kansas State. But they’re still the best team in the Big 12. But since there can’t be two top teams, the Sooners will fall one spot. Just know that it’s a technicality.

3. West Virginia (19-4, 8-2)

Sure, one could argue that West Virginia deserves the top spot in our rankings. The Mountaineers have the best record in the conference. They beat Iowa State and Baylor in their past two games. But the 17-point loss to Florida in the Big 12/SEC Challenge shows the biggest issue with the Mountaineers — inconsistency. So for now, they’ll hang out in third place.

4. Iowa State (17-6, 6-4)

Winning on the road without a true center is proof enough that the Cyclones deserve a top-four spot. That’s not an easy feat. But they’ll need Jameel McKay back if they are going to stand a legitimate chance of making a run in the conference tournament.

5. Texas (16-7, 7-3)

The Longhorns have won their last three games, including a win against Baylor, and have broken into the top-25. Shaka Smart seems to have turned around the Longhorns. But, Texas has Oklahoma and Iowa State this week. It’ll be a true test to see how good the Longhorns really are.

6. Baylor (17-6, 6-4)

Baylor has lost two in a row and is in danger of slipping in the standings. This week will be key for the Bears, with two winnable games in Kansas State and Texas Tech.

7. Kansas State (14-9, 3-7)

The Wildcats are confusing to rank. They fell to Kansas by nearly 20 points last week, but then turned around and beat Oklahoma at home by double-digits. If they can beat Baylor on Wednesday and come up with back-to-back road wins against Oklahoma State and TCU next week, then they’re right back in the mix. If not, then who knows what’s next for the Wildcats.

8. Texas Tech (13-9, 3-7)

The Red Raiders beat Oklahoma State last week, so they get the edge.

9. Oklahoma State (11-12, 2-8)

With only two conference wins, it’s hard to put the Cowboys higher than this.

10. TCU (10-13, 1-9)

And based on that same logic, only having one conference win makes this placement pretty easy.
