Top Highlights from Annie Lederman’s SUB Comedy Night

Student Union Board hosted “Comedy Night” on Thursday night at the Maintenance Shop. The show featured Annie Lederman, a comedian known for appearances on Chelsea Lately, Comedy Central and MTV’s hit show “Girl Code.”

Her show was a crowd-pleaser, to say the least. Poking fun at crowd members, sharing her disgust for man buns and exaggerating the downfalls of her education, Lederman did not take no for an answer and consistently filled the room with laughter.
Among her many hilarious puns, here are some of the more memorable highlights from Thursday’s performance:
1. Lederman explained how the college she once attended had recently gone bankrupt.
“It’s weird that I’m more famous than my college, because I actually have a website,” Lederman said.
All throughout the show, Lederman referred back to her college education and blamed most things on the fact that the school she attended ended up closing.
2. Lederman took advantage of the playful crowd. She identified a member of the crowd as having just come from the library.
She asked, “Did you just fly in on your hover board?”
He responded, “yes.”
The audience bursted out in laughter.
3. Man buns were also a hot topic in Lederman’s stand-up. Lederman expressed her distaste for them and thanked Iowa for not having any crowd members with man buns.
She said, “If you have a man bun, you’re not cool.”
Lederman retorted to her thoughts on the man bun after spotting a male audience member with shoulder-length hair.

4. Lederman described her trip, how she flew into Ames and met the mayor of Des Moines. Although she did think she was in Des Moines for a brief moment, a particular member of the crowd corrected her.
Lederman responded with, “Who’s your mayor? Have you met them? Do you have an airport story?”
5. Another highlight from Lederman’s stand-up was her teasing a front-row seater who happened to be wearing a fake leather jacket. Every time Lederman came back to the subject of the fake leather jacket, the audience couldn’t contain their laughs.
She asked, “Is it leather or pleather?”
6. A staring contest between a front row member of the crowd and Annie made the audience unable to stop laughing. Her teasing made the laughter uncontrollable.
She asked, “Why are you looking at me like that? You are so confident.”
7. Lederman described her times spent in college and how she played pranks on her roommate. A memorable moment was with two men sitting next to each other.
Lederman asked, “Are you two roommates? Do you guys play pranks on each other?”
At one point she referred to herself as being evil.
She said, “I was a monster.”
8. Another great highlight from Lederman’s hysterical stand-up was when Lederman asked the crowd, “Can I get a crappy couple?”
An audience member from the back row called out, “No. This is Iowa,” and the entire room filled with hysterical laughter.
