Iowa State succeeds in first pentathlon

Iowa State swimming and diving held a pentathlon Saturday. In this weekend’s pentathlon, each swimmer from each team swam a 50 fly, 50 back, 50 breast, 50 free, and a 100 IM. The athletes individual times in the different events are added up and the lowest times are the winners.

Texas Christian and the University of South Dakota also brought their men’s team along with them and they competed in between women’s heats. Over on the diving boards, synchronized diving took place in elimination rounds, where pairs were cut until just one pair remained.

Iowa State placed first in the 50 yard breaststroke, 50 yard freestyle and 50 IM. Six of the top ten finishers were Cyclones.

Kasey Roberts, an Iowa State sophomore took first overall with a total time of 2:49.20, while Savanna Townsend took third with a time of 2:54.90.

Cyclone divers Elyse Brouillette and Julie Dickinson took second place in the women’s division with a score of 189.00.
