Pins took over the Iowa State/Midland dual. The Cyclones dominated early and defeated the Warriors 51-0 to open up the wrestling season at Hilton Coliseum on Thursday night.

Kyle Larson started off the dual in the 125-pound class and defeated Hugo Perez 8-2 in three periods. After that match, there were four straight pins.

All four wrestlers won the pin in the first period, making it a quick four matchups and an early lead for Iowa State. Those four wrestlers consisted of Earl Hall, John Meeks, Blayne Briceno and Renaldo Rodriguez-Spencer.

Tanner Weatherman got to an early lead against Midland’s Cooper Self. After two periods, Weatherman won the matchup by a technical fall at a score of 22-6.

The pins continued at 184 and 197 pounds when Dane Pestano and Duke Egli finished the dual strong. Iowa State ended the dual with a shutout against Midland.

The Cyclones have part two of their doubleheader on Nov. 12 against Boise State. The second dual against Boise State takes place in Hilton Coliseum at 7:30 p.m. These two duals are in preparation for the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open on Nov. 15.
