The Inter-Residence Hall Association discussed upcoming IRHA funding in their meeting Thursday.

Cyclone Cinema returned for its second read at the IRHA meeting in the Campanile Room of Memorial Union on Thursday, Nov. 5. Representatives from Colleges for Cancer spoke on behalf of their proposed request for IRHA funding towards Relay for Life durning the meeting as well.

With an overwhelming majority, Cyclone Cinema’s request for IRHA funding to continue the second movie theater, Carver 001 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, was passed.

With normal attendance per year around 23,000-25,000 students and 10,000 already in attendance this year, The Cyclone Cinema program requested that funding be put towards Cyclone Cinema to help cover operational costs such as custodial work post-movie.

Representatives of Cyclone Cinema believe that this will be the only time additional IRHA funding will be needed and does not foresee this happening in the upcoming years.

A first read of Colleges for Cancer’s proposed Relay for Life bill brought on conversation among parliament members. Representatives from Colleges for Cancer spoke on behalf of the event and answered all raised questions.

Relay for Life is a twelve-hour fundraising event that incorporates various activities. In previous years, students participating listened to cancer survivor speakers, played games such as mini golf, were able to interact with a hypnotist and dance along with a Zumba instructor.

Relay for Life will take place on April 1, 2016, beginning at 7 p.m. and going through the night until 7 a.m. on the morning of the second. With over a dozen residence hall teams signed up last year, Colleges for Cancer is seeking for funding from IRHA to help cover event costs and encourage further resident hall student attendance.

Colleges for Cancer representatives will return next week at the IRHA meeting for a second read, discussion and debate of the proposed bill.
