Competing with a handful of teams ranked in the top 25, the ISU women’s cross-country team secured a second-place finish at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday.

The No. 6 Cyclones were led by junior Perez Rotich, who finished fourth in the 5K race with a time of 17:05.13. Rotich was a key to Iowa State’s success last season after finishing as the team’s fourth runner at the 2014 NCAA Championship.

Newcomer Becky Straw and redshirt sophomore Erin Hooker made their season debuts, finishing 12th and 13th, respectively.

With only one collegiate cross-country meet under her belt, redshirt freshman Abby Caldwell finished as Iowa State’s fourth runner and 20th overall with a 17:20.46 time.

Junior Maryn Lowry rounded out the scoring for the Cyclones, finishing 30th.

Iowa State will next compete at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational on Oct. 16 in Madison, Wis.
