The Score, an indie-pop alternative rock duo known for their hits “Unstoppable,” “Legend” and “Born For This,” are set to take the Maintenance Shop stage for their Run Like a Rebel Tour at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The Los Angeles based artists Eddie Anthony and Edan Dover have become a consistent duo, earning spots on the Billboard Rock Songs and iTunes Alternative charts. In 2017, the duo released their very first self-produced and self-written debut album, premiering at number seven on iTunes for U.S. Alternative Albums chart. The album’s hit single “Legend” became a recurring anthem for sporting events, even becoming the theme song for the NBA playoffs.

The iconic duo has reached hundreds of millions of downloads and streamings. Over the course of their three EPs, “Unstoppable,” Myths & Legends” and “Stay,” they have reached a peak that has seen their music distributed through YouTube channels, TV shows and commercials. Their music, best described as rock, pop and electronic, has scored them opening and headlining tours across the world.

In an interview with 933 Garage, The Score discussed their transition from songwriters to performers. Both Anthony and Dover prefer performing as a band over writing individually.

For the duo, one commercial song made a groundbreaking, life-changing history point in their lives.

“We wrote one song that got picked up in the U.K. by a big commercial,” Dover said. “And soon we found all these record labels that wanted to sign us. It was pretty wild.”

As they were being signed, they did not know what they wanted to do and were still finding their identity in their music. As they were exiting from commercial music, it was a blessing and a curse because they didn’t know what direction they wanted to head into. It took them a while to get used to the music industry and the world they were thrown into.

“It’s super gratifying to be able to perform our own songs for a crowd and see them out there and seeing people respond to them,” Dover said. “And for them to sing the lyrics back to us … it never gets old.”

The duo said they love the process of making the music and the outcome. For them, it is amazing to see what transpires in the studio and then see the reason why they are on stage. That is the reason why they do what they do; they do it for the shows, the fans and for singing everything.

The show in Ames will begin with openers The Unlikely Candidates and The Orphan The Poet. The audience can expect melodic, abrasive, relatively angst-free music. The M-shop doors will open approximately thirty minutes before the show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $15 for the public and $10 for Iowa State students who present their student ID in advance. There will be a $2 increase on the day of the show.
