ISU women’s golf in seventh place after day one of Dick McGuire Invitational

The ISU women’s golf team is in seventh place after the first day of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational.

Through the first two rounds of play in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Cyclones are 3-over-par and 21 strokes back of Stanford University, who leads at 13-under-par. The Cyclones are closer to first than last though, with the University of Texas at El Paso being in last place at 53-over-par.

18 schools teed off early Monday morning for the invitational that will finish up on Tuesday. Iowa State’s lowest score came from Celia Barquin, the sophomore from Spain, who is in eleventh place at 2-under-par. Nattapan Siritrai is also in striking distance at 1-over-par.

The Cyclones struggled through the first nine holes in the first round with all scores above par, but then made up ground on the pack with three players shooting under par on the back nine of the course. The second round was just the opposite with the low scores in the first nine and the high scores in the last nine.

The final round of the tournament will start on Tuesday morning.
