University Museums will be celebrating its 40th anniversary on Saturday, September 19th.

The event will take place at Brunnier Art Museum, located in Scheman. Guests can expect desserts, live music and the reveal of a brand new publication called “Campus Beautiful: Shaping the Aesthetic Identity of Iowa State University.”

University Museums consists of three facilities: Brunnier Art Museum, Christian Petersen Art Museum and Farm House Museum. All of which are continuously updating to keep things fresh and showcase new artists.

“Our massive public art collection continues to grow by leaps and bounds,” said Allison Sheridan, Communications Coordinator for University Museums.

Brunnier Art Museum, where the event is being held, holds by far the largest collection of all the museums on campus, with more than 30,000 pieces. With such a large collection, University Museums are looking toward the future on finding more storage space for pieces.

“We just brought into the collection 80 more works of art by Iowa artists,” Sheridan said.

Many of these pieces will be on display at the 40th anniversary celebration, as guests will be able to walk through the exhibits and admire the new works.

The celebration takes place 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Reservations are required at $40 per person and are $50 at the door. All of University Museum’s locations are open to the public, but the event is raising money for the Fund for Excellence.

“The money helps to augment what we get from the state, and we use the Fund for Excellence to bring in spectacular exhibitions, acquire works of art, and put out publications,” said Sheridan.
