Well this is interesting. I didn’t know it was possible, but there is officially a first successful penis transplant. Even crazier: the patient’s girlfriend is about four months pregnant.

The patient, kept anonymous for ethical reasons, received the penis transplant during a nine-hour operation on December 11 in Cape Town, South Africa.

The man’s first penis was amputated after complications following a circumcision performed during a coming-of-age ceremony. The man’s life was saved by the amputation, but he ended up missing something pretty important.

Well all turned out wonderful as the penis transplant was deemed successful in March, doctors saying that the man’s urinary and reproductive functions were fully restored.

Dr. Andre van der Merqe of Cape Town told CNN that the patient said his girlfriend is four months along with their child.

The recovery was expected to last two years. Holy crap.

The first penis transplant was attempted in China, but was unsuccessful because the recipient requested it be removed after a sever psychological reaction.
