Kentucky Derby Style

The Kentucky Derby is one of the biggest events in horse racing. As many may know, the fashion of the Kentucky Derby is very well known. From the decadent suits to the extravagant hats, Derby style is classic to the event.

The main component of any woman’s Derby look is one’s hat. From large and floppy hats to small intricate designs, the hat is the centerpiece for any woman’s look during the Kentucky Derby. This year’s trend for woman’s hats, according to Southern Living, is a small headpiece with a simple woven disc topped with feathers and netting decorations. But, the classic large hat is always popular among attendants.

In traditional Derby style, women tend to gravitate towards simple silhouettes for dresses; this is to not counteract the extravagant hats that they wear. Common choices include Lilly Pulitzer shift dresses, simple strapless dresses, or other classic looks.

When it comes to jewelry, the same principles apply. Most women add simple necklaces or bracelets to complete their look.

Most people will never get to see the Kentucky Derby in person. But, one can still take inspiration from this iconic stylish event in their everyday wardrobe.

To create one’s own Derby inspired look simply pair a classic dress with a strand of pearls and wedges. Also, don’t forget a floppy hat for an extra Derby touch. One can find stylish Derby hats at stores like Target or websites like Marley Lilly.
