Former ISU basketball walk-on Kourtlin Jackson was arrested early Friday morning on two charges. At about 1:40 a.m., police were dispatched to Lincoln Way and Hayward to break up a fight where Jackson was charged with class “D” felony assault and public intoxication, a misdemeanor.

Ames Police Investigations Cmdr. Jason Tuttle said the victim was “punched in the face causing his gums and mouth to bleed,” as well as suffering a shoulder injury. The report was filed at 2:45 a.m.

Class “D” felonies are punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of $750 to $7,500.

Jackson was a transfer from John Wood Community College and was a walk-on for the men’s basketball program, seeing action in eight games in 2014-15. The 6-foot-4-inch junior averaged 0.6 points and 0.6 rebounds in just 3.3 minutes of action per game.

Jackson announced he was transferring from the program after the end of the season.
