Waist training: 1800s flashback

Corsets are a thing of the past right? Wrong! They are back and trending hard!

Corsets have returned with a new alias — waist trainers. The idea behind waist training is the ability to look slimmer without having to step foot in a gym. The Kardashians have been spotted in the gym and on Instagram laced up in the Victorian-inspired corsets.

Waist training seems like a win-win approach — you don’t have to spend hours in the gym yet still get to look slimmer. The corset is supposed to help you sweat out excess weight and toxins, eat smaller portions and even support good posture. Many women discover a newfound confidence when wearing waist trainers as well.

Sadly, many doctors question the effectiveness of this extreme body shaping. The confidence is absolutely true but using the corset to sweat out weight and toxins has been proven to be a myth. Many people overuse the waist trainer and end up cinching it much too tight.

This aggressive approach to losing weight can cause acid reflux, difficulty breathing or even organ damage. Many women have fallen victim to thinking corsets will permanently change their body but the reality is that once the corset is removed, you will still have just as much body as you started with.

Despite the arguments against waist trainers, some women still wiggle their way into a corset every day. It’s up to you … which side of the debate do you fall on?
