The opening doubleheader of the Rebel Classic was not kind to the Cyclones.

To kick off the tournament, Iowa State played No. 14 California. The Cyclones jumped out early on California as senior Maddie Reese brought home Brittany Gomez in the first inning. ISU tacked on another run in the first when sophomore Rachel Hartman brought home junior Aly Cappaert to make the score 2-0 after one.

After the first, the scoring dried up for the Cyclones, but the scoring for the Golden Bears heated up. California was able to cut the lead to one in the second inning and tie the game in the fifth.

The teams entered the seventh and final inning deadlocked at 2-2. California claimed a 6-2 victory with a seventh inning grand slam.

The scoring drought for the Cyclones trickled into the second game of the doubleheader against the University of Nevada, Las Vegas [UNLV] Rebels.

The Rebels jumped out early on the Cyclones, grabbing a 7-0 lead after one inning.

The bleeding did not stop there, as the Rebels added two more runs in the fourth to boost them to a 9-0 victory against the Cyclones.

Iowa State will attempt to regain its offense when it takes on Houston at 8 p.m. and University of California Santa-Barbara at 10:15 p.m. March 6 at the Rebel Classic.
